I was intrigued to try out the new Mediterranean restaurant in the Weetwood Hall Estate. I spent my childhood growing up in the Mediterranean, I was very lucky to eat this beautiful food on a daily basis.
through the restaurant into an al fresco area, an open top conservatory dining area. The weather was great so we could enjoy the sunshine whilst dining, blankets were also provided on each chair and overhead heaters in case it did get chillier.
We were approached by the manager who introduced himself – followed by our menus and bread and olives to begin the evening’s proceedings, the bread was artisan-light and fluffy.
We started to inspect the menu, I was surprised at the superb range of appealing dishes available. We had ample time to decide – which consisted of some great hand-picked dishes with old favourites as well as some great meat and fish options.
I opted for the fish, starting with the Sashimi tuna tar tar and the Sanlucar prawns which were from a specific region in Spain. My guests chose the meat and cheese board which consisted of Manchego cheese – a favourite of all of us, smoked Idiazabel cheese and hand sliced Mediterranean meats on an olive wood board, they were accompanied by Ibarra peppers, caper berries and balsamic onions. Alongside seasonal asparagus wrapped in Serrano ham served with a free range poached egg. The starters were divine – the presentation was second to none. The skill, effort and passion in these dishes were obvious.
We selected a full bodied Argentinian Malbec for the meat eaters and a light dry Italian white for the fish eaters; I chose the lobster, the other opted for the Tuscan fish stew filled with clams, mussels, sea bass and tiger prawns. The 90 day aged steak we had heard so much about and finally the Iberico Pluma, a pork equivalent to Wagu. Each dish was stunning, with beautiful presentation.
Regrettably I often just want to get seated, eat and leave as I am either hungry or in a rush however this restaurant was different, the atmosphere was relaxed and chilled, the sun was shining the wine flowing – it was so lovely to really enjoy some good – no great authentic fresh Mediterranean fayre.
The simple formula of good service, authentic food married with sumptuous surroundings produces a winning end product and a fantastic evening out with friends, family or even a special date night.
